Called Wild Tamarind also known as Bahamas Lysiloma is an excellent host plant for the large orange sulphur butterfly. The leaves are alternate, bipinnately, compound, overall leaf around 7" long, pinnae numbering two to four pairs, each pinna with 8 to 15 pairs of leaflets: leaflets elliptic to oblong and nearly symmetric. Flowers: small, borne in globular, greenish white heads, around 3/4" in diameter, borne from the leaf axils in fascicles of one to three flowering heads. Fruit: a flat pod, around 4" long, usually remaining on the tree throughout the year. Distribution: disturbed sites, hammocks, pine palmetto woodlands.
