This beautiful tall, straight, majestic tree with a narrow crown and produce beautiful yellow green flowers is also known as the tulip tree, American tulip tree, tulipwood, tuliptree, tulip poplar, whitewood, fiddletree, lynn-tree, hickory-poplar, and yellow-poplar. Tulip tree is an excellent host plant for the tiger swallowtail butterfly. The leaves are alternate, simple, around 7" long, bases and apices truncate, the truncated tips often with a "V" shaped notch, margins with four or six, normally pointed, lobes. Flowers: green with blotches orange, tulip or bell shaped. Distribution: bottomland woods, slopes and bluffs.
