Also know as Smooth torchwood, Candlewood, Sea amyris, Tea, Cuabilla, and Bois chandelle. Sea Torchwood tree is an important host plant for the Giant and Schaus Swallowtail butterfly. The leaves are opposite, compound, leaflets three to five in number, quite limber and drooping, around 3" long, light green, ovate to ovate lanceolate, with entire margins, long pointed tips and glandular dots on the upper surface. Flowers: tiny, white, borne in clusters up to 2" long. Fruit: a purple to black, ovoid drupe with obvious glandular dots, about 1/4" long. Distribution: primarily found in wet coastal hammocks.
