This beautiful butterfly is unfortunately endangered to South Florida and the Caribbean. You can't miss this large black-brown wings swallowtail with distinctive yellow markings.

Larva: Brown with white blotches, closely mimicking bird droppings. Purpose: This disguise protects  the tiny larvae from predators such as birds and lizards. Shape: Short, stubby, with a slightly swollen head capsule. 

Pupa: The chrysalis varies from mottled green to light or dark brown, depending on the background where it pupates. Is beautifully camouflage and looks quite different from most common garden butterflies. It's designed to blend perfectly into the tropical hardwood hammock environment where it forms, especially among Torchwood branches and wild lime stems.
