The leaves are alternate, simple, lanceolate, variable in size to about 6" long, about 12 time as long as wide, margins finely toothed, lower surfaces whitish. Flowers: male flowers borne in attractive catkins near the end of branches, each catkin greenish yellow, arising with the new leaves. Fruit: capsule around 2" long
