Fact about Persea Borbonia " Swamp Bay- Red Bay" host plant:
This is an excellent host plant for the palamedes and spice bush swallowtail butterfly. The leaves are alternate, simple, entire, lanceolate, around 6" long, aromatic when crushed. Flowers are small, greenish, borne in loose clusters in the leaf axils. Fruit: a rounded, dark blue drupe, to about 1/2" diameter. Distribution: hammocks, bluffs and scrub.

Many years of hard work has resulted in a remarkable display of plants The walking garden delights the senses with fragrance and the thrilling sight of many visiting butterfly species. It does seem like Eden. This exceeds both the scale and variety of the butterfly garden at Leu gardens.
The proprietor was accommodating and eager to entertain any questions. We purchased several healthy three year old Redbay trees, which are a favorite of black swallowtails, for our backyard.
The plants I purchased were well established and very healthy. Great size too.
