Facts about Fagus Grandifolia (American Beech)

This is one more good host plant for the Luna Moth. The leaves are alternate, simple, two ranked, predominately oval to elliptic, around 6" long, margins dentate, with 9-14 pairs of prominent lateral veins, each terminating at the tip of a marginal tooth. Flowers: Male and female flowers small and inconspicuous. Fruit: Borne in a spiny enclosure that splits at maturity to expose one to three nuts. Distribution of this host plant are in the woodland areas.
