Wonderful large evergreen tree with glossy, green leaves. also know as Camphorwood or Camphor Laurel. Camphor tree is an excellent small host plant for the spicebush and palamedes swallowtail. The leaves are alternate, simple, oval, over 4" long, upper surface shinny green, margins entire and wavy. Flowers: small, cream colored, borne in loose, spreading clusters. Fruit: a rounded, black drupe to about 1/2" in diameter and borne atop a cup shaped receptacle. Distribution: second woods and disturbed sites.
