This tree is an important host plant for the luna moth. The leaves are alternate, compound, odd pinnate, over 15" long; leaflets usually 9 to 17 in number and dropping, lanceolate in shape, margins serrate. Flowers: male flowers borne in a light green catkins to about 6" long. Fruit: A nut borne in a smooth, thin shelled husk, to about 2"long and shaped like a football. Distribution: introduced species found in disturbed upland sites across much of northern Florida where escaped from cultivation.
