The metalmark butterfly (Calephelis spp.) is a small brush-footed butterfly occasionally found in Florida, usually in open woodlands, meadows, and along forest edges. It has orange-brown wings patterned with delicate black lines and scattered metallic silver or white spots that give it a subtle shimmering appearance in sunlight. Metalmarks are weak fliers and often stay close to the ground, perching on low vegetation or flowers. They are shy and unobtrusive, making them easy to overlook despite their distinctive markings. Adults typically feed on flower nectar, while their caterpillars feed on various low-growing plants such as asters.
