Danaus Gilippus " Queen butterfly"
Wingspans: 3" to 3.5"
Deep fox brown above and below with black margins. Veins lined with black, more thick below. Two rows of small white dots speckle black borders, larger ones spatter the apical quarter of the FW. Black bar at the end of FW cell, black androconial patch on male dew. Lack the black veins of the larger Monarch, and is browner.
Larva: The caterpillar is transversely striped with black and white. Each segment of the body has a wide black band containing a lemon-yellow stripe or spots on the back. Sometimes, the yellow is absent. There are three pairs of long fleshy filaments on the body. The head is white with black stripes.
Pupa: The pupa is green or pink with gold spots. There is only one pair of gold spots on the head. The back of the abdomen has a black and gold line. The cremaster is black with a horseshoe shaped mark extending onto the front of the tip of the abdomen.
